The Merry-Go-Round

There stood the merry-go-round
Amidst the noise and the mayhem

Painted horses on a pole in rows
Waiting to take you for a ride

The merry-go-round
Goes on and on
Around and around

Giddy and light-headed
The world swirls around you

But it's you who's moving
While the world watches you

Until the merry-go-round stops

You're still standing where you started
You thought you were headed somewhere
Yet you landed nowhere

Perhaps life is like a merry-go-round

We go in circles
We go up
We go down
We go around and around

But in the end
We're still standing in one place

Bewildered yet dazzled
Confounded and mystified

A never-ending cycle

Of little purpose
Of no consequence

Yet the ride goes on.
