"Be careful what you ask for"

I bring my copy of "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff at Work" to work everyday. When I take a break, I check out one chapter. Today, I asked my sister to give me a number between 1-100. The chapter title? "Be careful what you ask for."

It made me think about what I've been through, where I am now and where I want to be. All in all, there are so many things to be thankful for. Even when trials come our way, there is still much to be thankful for as we always end up learning something from them.

Stuck in a dead-end job for years, I knew I wanted out despite the great benefits. A lot of people thought I was being rash, but I knew I wasn't in a good place anymore - commuting two hours each way, sick all the time, getting yelled at for things that were not my fault, being treated like crap. I could've stayed, forever enticed by the vacation days. But I decided to leave.

I wanted a job in a company with a casual work environment, flexible working hours and most importantly, close to home. I wanted to spend more time with my husband. I wanted to be part of a small company where I could make a difference, where I'm not just another cog in the machinery. I wanted to contribute to its growth. Now that's where I am.

People DO get what they want. Isn't that a great thing? The universe is listening. Somebody Up There is paying more attention that we realize.
