2007 Thanksgiving weekend

The four-day Thanksgiving weekend is drawing to a close. No more leftovers. The four days flew by so fast - a good break. Hopefully, people at work will be too excited by the holiday season that crazy deadlines will be pushed to the sidelines. *crosses my fingers*

I like Thanksgiving, but as my sister pointed out in her Thanksgiving post, it's not a big deal for us who grew up in the Philippines because we don't have Thanksgiving there. (No need for me to point out why, right?) Of course, since we moved here to the US, we try to adapt and adopt. So even in our little way, we celebrate Thanksgiving. After all, it's never a bad idea to count one's blessings and share the bounty. Thanks to Boston Market for their Holiday Essentials Boneless Turkey Breast Banquet for 6. Food was something we didn't worry about, all for $50! Not bad.

Our very simple Thanksgiving menu:
Appetizers - baby carrots, celery sticks and broccoli with ranch dip
Main dish - roasted 3lb. boneless turkey breast with gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing with fresh vegetables and cornbread loaf, plus our very own embotido ;)
Dessert - mocha cake (from Cindee's Cakes & Catering in Queens, NY )
Drinks - sparkling apple-cranberry cider and soda

No Black Friday madness for us this year. We DID end up buying a queen mattress (for $250 - what a steal!) and an all-in-one Epson printer/scanner/copier (for $70 - yet another steal!). But no waking up early to join the fray in the different stores. We couldn't really think of anything to wake up early for...which is good because we didn't spend so much.

Happily, I found two gift cards given to me before and used them today. Bought Colbie Caillat's cd "Coco". I haven't bought a cd in ages. You see, I kept seeing the video of "Bubbly" on MTV while we were in Prague. Plus, it's been a long time since a song would remind me of a place. So that's why I bought the cd - to remind me of Prague. The other gift card was from Linens-N-Things. It's always fun buying things without actually spending your own money. :D

We also fixed up the extra room used by my parents when they're here. I designed it again using my Trading Spaces software. Yeah, I'm a frustrated interior designer. I notice though, that when it comes to other people's homes, I find it easier to figure out what to do with their space. But our living and dining room? I really have no idea how to go about it. Odd. I still want to paint our walls, but still lazy to actually do that. In due time.

Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend. To those in the Philippines, I read this article, so please stay safe and dry!

From her album cover, Colbie Caillat looks a bit like Jennifer Aniston, don't ya think??

Any way, glad to here that you had a good thanksgiving this year. From what I know, Singaporeans don't usually celebrate Thanksgiving. :P

Yeah, they look like sisters.

I imagine you guys also don't have Thanksgiving. Pilgrims headed to the US, not our countries, right?
