An "American Idol" night

I've never watched "American Idol" until tonight. Heard a Filipina was there - Ramiele Malubay, the one who sang "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me". It was nerve-wracking to watch her sing, but she sang so beautifully, I actually felt a surge of pride. I hope she'll hang around.

I've received e-mails from fellow Filipinos saying that we should vote for her because she's a Filipino. The way I see it, she gets my vote if she's good, not only because she's Filipino. "American Idol" is, after all, a talent show. Interesting if she wins, of course. It would represent America as the melting pot that it is.

I just wonder why Ryan Seacrest seems to "translate" what the others say. I mean, the other three DO speak English. We all understand what they say. But it seems like Mr. Seacrest still has to explain what was said to the contestants. As for Simon Cowell, I LIKE him! Sure he seems contrary, but anybody who wants to get into the biz would deal with crap eventually. He provides the contestants with that kind of "baptism of fire". Randy Jackson's pretty transparent when he likes the performer. Paula Abdul? Puh-lease. She just seems to be Randy's echo. That's all I'll say.

Anyway, while watching the show, all I kept thinking was, "Kristen can do this!"

Thanks for the text; I got to see her too. She was pretty good. And Kristen can SO do that! Can't stand Seacrest either.
