Tough love is tough

Why else would it be called tough love if it wasn't tough?

Loving someone can be very tricky. You want to save them, shield them and protect them from whatever problems come their way. But the saddest thing is, you can't protect them from themselves. Loving someone makes you do things (or want to do things) for your loved ones that you'd scold other people for doing.

At a certain point, people have to learn to stand on their own two feet. Emergencies happen. Help is not always a phone call away. That's just not the way it is. Teach a person to fish. DO NOT give them fish. After all, people have to own up to their responsibilities.

Just because you don't give doesn't mean you don't love them. Sometimes you have to hold back. Giving money does not equate great love. In the same way that not giving money does not equate with less love.

Tough love is tough because it is the kind of love that gives other people room to grow.
