"The Host"

I finished reading Stephenie Meyer's "The Host" today. It was actually better than the "Twilight" series. *waits with bated breath for booing* Hmmm...ok, no booing.

It took me awhile to find my groove with the book, but when I did, I couldn't put the book down. It's all about Melanie Stryder and the Wanderer. Of course, there's still the self-sacrificing female character kinda like Bella of the "Twilight" series. Somehow, I can't really reconcile the author's concept of an empowered female. She begins on that point, but just doesn't quite stretch it too far. I end up feeling disappointed. Pretty similar to how Bella made me want to smack her sometimes and made me roll my eyes to the ceiling. And once again, the confusion between two guys like Edward and Jacob, only this time, it's Jared and Ian. It just wasn't a romantic triangle. It was a romantic quadrangle!

Nevertheless, I admit the book is quite imaginative. I noticed that it's a Stephenie Meyer strength - she writes compelling page-turning material. Just too bad about her lead female characters.
